Last week was a double bonus meeting, we got to hear from the new District Governor Peter Scott, and he was proud to join our President Julie Hutchens in awarding the Paul Harris Fellowship award to Ken Powell.
June 27th was a great time! We had some fantastic food thank you to Shoal Creek Tavern, and we had a lot of fun, Passing the Gavel. The annual tradition of thanking our past board members and welcoming our new board members. Glenn Kimball our outgoing President could wait to hand off the gavel and RUN back to his sailboat. Julie Hutchens took the gavel willingly (got to love the newly initiated) ;) But truth be told Julie is an old hat, she is one of Highland Village's founding members! Good luck to the new board and tons of gratitude to the out going board.
We had a packed house and a great time last Thursday the 31st! It was our social and new member induction ceremony.
Its bigger and better than ever! The Highland Village Rotary presents the Taste of the Village. Bigger space at the beautiful Briarwood Retreat Center, more vendors with great food. Live music provided by Good Therapy and the best casino party around provided by Deal Me In!
We had a great meeting last week, Phil Lozano shared his amazing enthusiasm with us for the Parks and Recreation Department of Highland Village! We learned about upcoming enhancements to the parks and found out that Highland Village is truly a leader when it comes to serving it's citizens. Thank you so much Phil for sharing with us!
We had a great time at our annual charity golf tournament, and this week we got to show off just how much fun we had! We want to thank all the golfers, sponsors and volunteers that make our 2018 tournament such a success. This week The HV Rotary was able to present 4 amazing charities with a $1000 check a piece. These charities all had skin in the game and all helped out with many volunteers at the golf event. This is truly the best part!
Mission Moms!
January started with a bang, The Highland Village Rotary in coordination with Marcus High School; presented two Student of the Month Awards to two very deserving and amazing kids. Lexie and Camille were nominated by their teachers for their outstanding attitudes, perseverance and great work ethics. Congratulations to Lexie and Camille!
The Holidays were busy, but Highland Village Rotary and our Marcus High School Interact Club found time to bring some holiday cheer to over 150 families in the Denton County area. The Clubs partnered with Market Street to get donations and provide complete meals for 150 families. Highland Village Rotary members could also be seen at the Wal-mart on Justin Rod, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army and sipping some hot chocolate. Thank you Thank you to all the Amazing People who turned up and turned it on for our 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament!!!!!

An officer is killed in the line of duty every 65 hours. Throughout history, there have been more line of duty deaths in the State of Texas than any other state or territory. The Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Fallen Officer Fund provides monetary assistance to Texas families of fallen heroes within 24 hours following an oficer’s line of duty death.

The TXFallenPD Tribute Event is a community event that takes place at The Shops of Highland Village.  Activities include a 5K run and civilian bike race in the morning and a Police Officer bike race and a Police Officer Obstacle Course Competition in the afternoon. There is live music, demonstrations, raffle prizes, a silent auction, kid zone, food, and drinks throughout the day.

We are proud to announce the Gavin A. Fleten Memorial Servant’s Heart Award to honor our co-founder, friend and THE model of what it means to have a servant’s heart.  From his years of delivering Meals on Wheels to serving as the de facto hunter/gatherer for anyone in need of his unique ability to bring people together for a common cause, Gavin was a force of nature unlike any other.  Gavin was not driven toward service by any particular cause.  He derived his passion from his desire to connect with people and to foster a network of connections that went deeper than most of us could ever strive to achieve on our own.
On Thursday the 14th of June we celebrated the "Passing of the Gavel" for our Rotary Club. We honored our 2017-2018 Board, gave out some special awards to our Service Above Self recipients, and introduced our Rookie of the Year! The Gavel passed from Fred Busche to Glenn Kimball as President for the 2018-2019 Year. Thank you everyone for all you do for our club, it always impresses what we can accomplish for a club our size!  Click this pic for the photo album!
Michelle McMahon, Executive Director of SPAN / Meals on Wheels of Denton County was presented a $1,000 check from the Taste of the Village HV Rotary Fundraiser. Fred Buche President present the check at the general meeting at Shoal Creek Tavern. More information on the great programs provided by Span can be found here

Its a great night here at the Highland Village Rotary Club Networking Meeting. A full house brought Mac & Cheese to help stock the pantry at Salvation Army, learned about the Annual Easter Bunny Hop Fundraiser and enjoyed good food and drink.
