February 10, 2010 marked the 1 year anniversary of the Highland Village Rotary Club. In just 12 months this group has much to celebrate! Here are a few highlights of accomplishments:
 
Given $1800 to Polio Plus
Given $3875 to The Rotary Foundation
Collected food for the local CCA Pantry, items for the Women's Shelter, books for the Denton County Children's Advocacy Center and items for rescued animals
Partnered with the Highland Village Women's Club to collect items for returning soldiers
Greeted troops at DFW Airport
Sent a student to RYLA
Sponsored a Youth Exchange Student from France for the year
Presented every 3rd grader in Highland Village with dictionaries
Partnered with a Highland Village senior citizen group to maintain a reading program for elementary students
Held a Dog Walk and raising money for the dictionary project as well as local animal health & rescue organizations
Held a Formal But Tacky Ball and Bras for a Cause auction raising $22,000 for local Breast Cancer Awareness organizations and local charities
Received 2 Matching Grants

Plans for the coming year include making fundraisers bigger and better in order to help more organizations and people in need. Club members intend to continue with all the above projects and partnerships. Highland Village Rotary Club will be taking over responsibility for the Marcus Interact Club July 1st. With this responsibility will come many opportunities for greater involvement with the students including scholarships and a 4 Way Speech contest.
